The Horizon Place Culinary App streamlines meal ordering, elevating the dining experience for every resident.
Horizon Place is a culinary management app built for a senior living community. Residents use it to browse the weekly menu, customize their meal preferences, and place orders for delivery to their unit.
The main challenge was designing a UI that worked for an older demographic — large text, high contrast, minimal steps, and forgiving touch targets. Every screen was tested with actual residents before launch.
The backend is a NestJS API connected to PostgreSQL, handling dietary restriction tracking, order queuing, and kitchen notification routing. Staff use a separate admin dashboard to manage menus, view daily order summaries, and flag dietary alerts.
The app reduced phone-based ordering by 70% and freed up significant staff time during meal preparation windows.
